Cargo Insurance Expertise Since 1975

Behind every shipment is a business that depends on it. Raw materials needed for production, equipment purchased for a project, goods ordered by a customer and commitments that must be met.

At Ishlav, we understand the commercial importance of each shipment and the need for insurance that reflects the cargo, its journey and the business behind it.

Ishlav Insurance Agency Ltd. was founded in 1975 by Avi Zohar, formerly Head of the Marine Department at Hasneh Insurance Company.

With more than five decades of experience, Ishlav is an established underwriting agency specialising in marine, air and inland cargo insurance, alongside insurance solutions for trade and logistics.

We work with importers, exporters, manufacturers, freight forwarders, customs brokers and insurance agencies, combining technical expertise with lasting, personal client relationships.

 Insurance Built Around Your Business:

Arranging appropriate insurance begins with understanding your operations: the nature and sensitivity of your goods, their value, packaging, terms of trade, shipping routes, modes of transport, storage and distribution arrangements. We assess insurance requirements throughout the journey, paying close attention to the transfer of risk between parties, policy limits, deductibles and necessary extensions.

Our solutions include insurance for individual shipments, open policies for ongoing operations, shipments between countries outside Israel, and Stock Throughput programmes combining cover for inventory, storage and transit.

Our experience spans technology and electronics, pharmaceuticals and life sciences, food and temperature controlled cargo, raw materials, bulk commodities, vehicles, industrial equipment and oversized shipments. Each requires an approach that reflects its particular characteristics and exposures.

Expertise in a Changing Risk Environment:

For Israeli businesses engaged in international trade, security conditions are an integral part of commercial planning. War and terrorism risks, threats to shipping routes, disruption at ports and in air transport, rerouting and unplanned storage can affect both insurance requirements and the terms on which cover is available.

We help clients assess the insurance implications of these exposures, including the need for war, terrorism and strikes extensions, their application during different stages of transit, and the impact of territorial restrictions, sanctions and notices changing insurance terms.

These considerations are particularly relevant to shipments to and from Israel and trade involving sensitive regions, including the Red Sea, Bab al Mandab, the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Black Sea.

We distinguish carefully between physical loss or damage to cargo and delays, demurrage, surcharges, additional expenses and commercial losses, which are not automatically covered by cargo insurance. War cover also requires specific assessment of its application at sea, in the air, on land and during storage. Where appropriate, extensions or specialist insurance options are considered, subject to underwriting requirements and market availability.

Professional Support When a Claim Arises:

Claims handling is central to our work.

When cargo is damaged or lost, we support clients through the claims process, assist with documentation and evidence, and coordinate with insurers, surveyors and other relevant parties to progress the claim and pursue their entitlements under the policy.

Our support includes attention to measures needed to mitigate loss, preserve recovery rights against transport providers and meet notification requirements. We understand that behind every claim is a business that needs to make decisions and continue operating.

Specialist Capabilities, Personal Relationships:

Alongside cargo insurance, Ishlav’s capabilities include goods in transit and carriers’ liability, exhibitions and demonstrations, fine art, museums and galleries, jewellery, yachts and other vessels, hull and machinery, charterers’ liability, marine construction, ports and marinas. For projects involving critical equipment, specialist solutions may also be considered for consequential loss and delay in project completion or commencement of operations following an insured event.

We provide underwriting services and specialist support to insurance agencies and professional partners. Our relationships with Israeli insurers and international brokers help us explore solutions for a broad range of complex insurance requirements.

Ishlav’s approach is grounded in expertise, responsibility and relationships built over time. We get to know the people behind each business, listen to their needs and remain a direct, professional point of contact as circumstances change.
